How Much Does Permanent Outdoor Lighting Cost in Boise?

Pure Light Systems typically prices permanent roofline lighting around $27–$30 per linear foot, depending on the home, roofline complexity, access, layout, and project scope. That range covers permanent roofline lighting only. Landscape lighting is custom quoted separately. Below is how roofline footage is measured, what moves a project up or down within the range, and how to get a price for your home.

Typical roofline pricing

Our typical range for permanent roofline lighting is $27–$30 per linear foot. Where a home falls in that range depends on how much work the roofline takes, not just how long it is.

A roofline quote covers the lighting design, TruLight lights and mounting track, professional installation, and app setup. Review your written quote for the exact scope.

What a linear foot means

A linear foot is one foot of length along the roofline where the lights are installed. If the lighting runs 40 feet across the front eave, up and down a 30-foot gable and across a 50-foot garage eave, that run is about 120 linear feet.

Linear footage is not square footage

Square footage measures a home's floor area. It does not tell you how long the roofline is. A compact two-story home with several front-facing peaks can have more roofline to light than a larger single-story home with one long, simple eave.

What changes the price of a roofline project

  • Total footage: How many linear feet of roofline are lit. This is the starting point for every roofline estimate.
  • Roofline complexity: Peaks, valleys, hips and short returns take more cutting, fitting and wiring than a long straight eave.
  • Height and access: Second-story eaves, steep pitches, and areas over landscaping or slopes take more setup time and care to reach.
  • Transitions: Places where one roofline steps up, down or around another need extra planning to keep the run continuous and clean.
  • Separate elevations: Lighting the front, sides and back as separate sections adds runs, connections and controller planning.
  • Layout choices: Which sections you light. Lighting only the street-facing elevation costs less than outlining the whole house.

Why similar frontage can still mean different scope

Two homes can have about the same width facing the street and still be very different projects. One may have a single straight eave and an easy-to-reach garage. The other may have three gables, a second-story peak over the entry, and a roof that steps back between sections. The second home has more footage, more transitions and harder access, even though both look about the same size from the street.

Illustrative examples

The arithmetic below shows how the per-foot range scales. These are hypothetical examples, not quotes, and they come before any project-specific adjustments.

Hypothetical roofline footage at the typical per-foot range
Hypothetical rooflineAt $27–$30 per foot
100 linear feetAbout $2,700–$3,000
150 linear feetAbout $4,050–$4,500
200 linear feetAbout $5,400–$6,000

For example, a hypothetical 150-foot roofline at $27–$30 per foot would be approximately $4,050–$4,500 before any project-specific adjustments.

Roofline lighting vs. landscape lighting pricing

The two services are priced differently because they are different kinds of work. Roofline lighting is a continuous run measured in linear feet. Landscape lighting is a set of individual fixtures placed around the yard.

How the quote process works

  1. Reach out. Call (208) 485-8200 or request a quote online.
  2. Get a general range. We can usually estimate footage from a satellite view of the property and give you a general price range by phone or from your online request.
  3. Free on-site quote. We visit, confirm measurements and access, talk through which sections to light, and give you a final written quote.
  4. Installation. Once you approve the quote, we schedule installation and set up the app with you.

Comparing quotes

If you have a written quote from another installer for comparable permanent lighting, share it with us. We will review it and do our best to match it where we reasonably can. When comparing, look at the equipment as well as the price: wire gauge and material, how white light is produced, and warranty terms can differ between systems.

Permanent lighting systems can look similar in photos and still be built differently. TruLight uses 16-gauge tinned copper, 4-wire, with a redundant data line and six LEDs per light, including three dedicated warm-white LEDs. During your on-site consultation, we can put TruLight modules in your hands next to other lights so you can see and feel the difference in build for yourself. See the full TruLight specifications.

What is a linear foot?

A linear foot is one foot of length along the roofline where lights are installed. It measures the length of the lighting run, not the square footage of the house.

Does the per-foot price apply to landscape lighting?

Landscape lighting is custom quoted based on the fixtures, placement, and scope of the design. The roofline per-foot range does not apply to landscape lighting.

Why can two similar-sized homes be priced differently?

Peaks, roof height, ladder access, transitions between rooflines and the number of separate elevations change how much work a layout takes, even when the total footage is similar.

Do I have to light the entire roofline?

No. You can start with the street-facing elevation or the most visible sections. The quote reflects the footage and layout you choose.
