TruLight vs JellyFish Lighting: Two Professional 48V Systems Compared
TruLight and JellyFish are technically closer than most permanent lighting systems. Both are professionally installed, run their lights at 48V, and use 16-gauge, 4-wire cable with a redundant data line. The main published differences are in the light itself and the warranty. JellyFish publishes its eave light as full-spectrum RGB with 3 diodes and offers warm-white presets. TruLight uses 6 LEDs per light, including 3 dedicated warm-white LEDs, and a different warranty structure.

What JellyFish does well
- 48V DC lighting with 16-gauge, 4-wire cable and a redundant data line, the same published architecture as TruLight.
- Professional installation through JellyFish install locations.
- A current Cloud 2.0 app with zones, multiple daily on/off events, calendar events that override daily schedules, animated pattern previews and multi-controller management.
- Smart-home integrations that include Control4 and Nice-Elan as well as Alexa and Google.
- UL certified and ETL listed lights and controller, as published by JellyFish.
White light: presets vs dedicated white LEDs
JellyFish offers warm-white presets from 2700K to 5000K and lets you design whites in between. Its eave light is published as full-spectrum RGB with 3 diodes per light, so based on that published hardware, those whites are produced by mixing red, green and blue.
TruLight puts 3 dedicated warm-white LEDs in each light alongside 3 RGB LEDs. Our view is that dedicated white emitters are the better tool for everyday architectural lighting on stone, stucco and wood. How much that difference matters to you is easiest to judge at night on a real house. The RGB vs RGBW guide explains the technical background.
Hardware and system design
On voltage and cable, the two systems are similar. JellyFish lists 250 feet of lights per power supply, with more supplies added through the controller. TruLight lists up to 300 feet on one circuit without power injection. In practice, both are planned around the roofline's layout and where power is available.
Spacing options differ: JellyFish offers 6, 9 or 16 inches, and TruLight's comparison documentation lists approximately 8–9 inches. JellyFish does not state a rated LED life on its product page; TruLight rates its LEDs at 100,000 hours.
Controls and music
Both systems support zones, scheduling, patterns and voice assistants. JellyFish's Cloud 2.0 adds calendar events and multi-controller management. TruLight lists 144+ motion patterns, sunset timers and Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri support.
For music, JellyFish sells a separate Music Box accessory that syncs the lights with a music source over Wi-Fi. TruLight lists music sync as an app feature.
Warranty and service
JellyFish states a 5-year parts warranty and a 1-year labor warranty. TruLight’s limited lifetime warranty covers the lighting modules and control box on qualifying dealer-installed systems for a fixed 11.4-year period, subject to registration, prorating, exclusions, and the manufacturer’s current terms. The TruLight manufacturer warranty is product-only; labor is not included. Ask each installer what labor coverage they offer on top of the manufacturer warranty.
Where JellyFish can be a good fit
- You want Control4 or Nice-Elan integration.
- UL and ETL listings are a deciding factor for you.
- You want a fixed 5-year parts and 1-year labor warranty from the manufacturer.
Our recommendation
Why we recommend TruLight
- Three dedicated warm-white LEDs in every light, where JellyFish’s published eave light is 3-diode RGB with warm-white presets.
- Six LEDs per light vs three.
- A published 100,000-hour LED rating; JellyFish does not state one on its product page.
- A longer manufacturer warranty term on lighting modules and control box: 11.4 years vs 5 years on parts.
- Music sync in the app, with no separate accessory to buy.
- Roofline and landscape lighting controlled together in the systems we install.
JellyFish is a well-built system, and on wiring and voltage the two are evenly matched. For everyday warm-white architectural lighting, we think TruLight's dedicated white LEDs make the difference.
This is our view as an authorized TruLight dealer, based on the published specifications compared above.
