The major differences
How the light is built, and how bright it is
Gemstone says each of its 3 LEDs per light holds red, green, blue and warm-white diodes, with whites from 2800K to 7000K. TruLight uses 6 separate LEDs per light: 3 RGB and 3 full warm-white. Gemstone publishes 46 lumens per light; TruLight publishes 90–120 lumens per light at full brightness. Measurement methods vary, but on paper TruLight is roughly twice as bright per light.
System voltage
Gemstone runs at 12V; TruLight at 48V with 16-gauge, 4-wire cable and a redundant data line. At the same power, 48V carries a quarter of the current, which reduces voltage drop on long runs. Wire and power planning matter too, as our voltage guide explains.
Warranty
This is one of Gemstone's strengths. It lists a lifetime warranty on the lights (based on an estimated 50,000-hour life), 10 years on other components including track and controllers, 1 year of labor, and a one-time transfer with limits. TruLight's limited lifetime warranty covers the lighting modules and control box for a fixed 11.4 years, prorated and product-only, on dealer-installed systems. Read both sets of terms closely.
Track and appearance
Gemstone lists custom aluminum track in more than 150 colors, depth-matched to the home. TruLight mounts in a low-profile aluminum track under the eaves or behind trim, designed to blend with the trim when off.
Where Gemstone can be a good fit
- Matching track to an unusual trim color is a priority; Gemstone lists 150+ track colors.
- You value a broad published warranty that includes 10 years on components and a transfer option.
- You want local Bluetooth control that works without Wi-Fi.
- CSA and ETL certification matters to you.
Our recommendation
Why we recommend TruLight
- Roughly twice the published brightness per light: 90–120 lumens vs 46.
- Double the published LED rating: 100,000 hours vs 50,000.
- Six separate LEDs per light, with three full-size LEDs devoted entirely to warm white.
- 48V with 16-gauge, redundant-data wiring for long runs, vs a 12V system.
- Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri support, plus zones, sunset timers and 144+ motion patterns.
- Roofline and landscape lighting controlled together in the systems we install.
If warm white is how you will use your lights most nights, brightness and white-light design are where we think TruLight earns its place. Ask to see both at night. See TruLight specifications or pricing.
This is our view as an authorized TruLight dealer, based on the published specifications compared above.
What to compare in a real quote
- Brightness and warm white at night on your home's materials.
- Warranty terms in writing, especially labor after the first year and transfer rules.
- Track color and how it sits on your fascia.

TruLight vs Gemstone FAQ
How are TruLight and Gemstone Lights different?
Both are professionally installed track systems with white light built into the hardware. Gemstone publishes a 12V system with 3 LEDs per light, each with red, green, blue and warm-white diodes, at 46 lumens and 50,000 hours. TruLight is a 48V system with 6 separate LEDs per light, 3 RGB and 3 dedicated warm-white, at 90–120 lumens and 100,000 hours.
What voltage does Gemstone Lights use?
Gemstone says its system converts household power to 12V. TruLight runs at 48V. Higher voltage carries the same power with less current, which helps on long runs, though wire, power injection and installation matter too.
How do the Gemstone and TruLight warranties compare?
Gemstone lists a lifetime warranty on the lights based on an estimated 50,000-hour life, 10 years on other components, 1 year of labor, registration within 30 days, and a one-time transfer with limits. TruLight’s limited lifetime warranty covers the lighting modules and control box on qualifying dealer-installed systems for a fixed 11.4-year period, subject to registration, prorating, exclusions, and the manufacturer’s current terms.
Does Gemstone track come in colors?
Yes. Gemstone lists custom aluminum track in more than 150 colors, depth-matched to the home. TruLight mounts in a low-profile aluminum track under the eaves or behind trim.
Can I compare Gemstone and TruLight in person?
Ask during your consultation. We keep samples of several other systems, so you can hold TruLight next to comparable lights and judge the build and white light for yourself.
